Electricity costs are on the rise.
The graph below shows the increase in electric costs from the electric cooperative Rolling Hills.
|
Over the past nine years, there has been an
annual increase of over 6%. The past 3 years
the increase has been over 8% per year.
To put this in perspective, in California, the
electric rate is over $0.35 per kilowatt-hour.
This is over double our current rate.
If the rates continue to rise at a 6% rate, our electric rate will equal or exceed the rate in
California within 15 years. What this means is that we will spend a significant amount of
money paying the utility company for something we can do ourselves.
Example:
Average Monthly Use: 690 kWh
Average Monthly Bill: $100 (currently)
Using the 6% increase in electric cost, the following chart shows how much is paid to the
utility company.
In 15 years, at the current rate of inflation, a $100 monthly bill will amount to almost
$30,000 dollars being paid to the electric company. This is a lot of money.
The answer is YES!
- Produce your own power.
- Be self sufficient.
- Do the right thing.
- Stop contributing to the pollution of Kansas!
An Example System:
Number of Solar Panels: 20
Size of System: 4.2 kW
Estimated Monthly Production: 625 kWh
Savings:
The savings will vary depending upon weather conditions, but based upon past weather
data, the system will average about 625 kWh every month. This will result in a savings
of about $90 each month initially.
As the price of electricity rises, the savings will continue to increase. The following
graph shows the savings over the 25 year power warranty of the solar panels.
Wouldn’t it be cheaper to make my own electricity?
