This solar array is the first system installed on
the Rolling Hills Electric Cooperative utility
system.  The array is mounted on the ground.
There are many versatile places that solar can
be mounted.  As long as the array is within
about 500’ of a breaker box, solar can be
installed.

Average Monthly Production 310 kWh
Average Monthly Savings $45

Annual Amount of Pollution Conserved:
Carbon: 3.0 Tons
Coal Conserved:  4.0 Tons

This system is one of the first systems installed in
the City of Lawrence, KS.  The solar is attached to
the utility company Weststar Energy’s electrical grid.
2.1 kW (kilowatt) roof mounted photovoltaic (PV) system:

Annual Amount of Pollution Conserved:
Carbon: 2.5 Tons
Coal Conserved:  3.0 Tons

Where solar can be placed is very flexible.  This system is mounted on an old hog
building.  Because the area had numerous trees, a site further from the house was
required to prevent shading of the solar array.
1.6 kW (kilowatt) roof mounted photovoltaic (PV) system:

System Statistics:
Location:  Mankato, KS
8 Suntech 175 watt PV modules
Fronius IG-2000 Inverter

Flush Mounted on roof
Average Monthly Production 200 kWh
Average Monthly Savings $29

Annual amount of Pollution Conserved:
Carbon: 2.0 Tons
Coal Conserved:  2.5 Tons

This was FREEstate ENERGY’s initial solar installation (Thanks Mom and Dad)
and was the first PV system installed in Mankato, KS.  The system is mounted on
the garage and produces approximately 15 to 20% of the electricity for the home.
